Annual Summer Picnic

Our fifth annual summer picnic was held on August 14th. This year we again had a deep pit BBQ with with beef and pork that melted in your mouth. A small twist this year was combining the BBQ with a birthday party. Everyone that attended had a great time and enjoyed the BBQ thanks to our master chef. There were many side dishes brought by those who attended. Everybody is waiting to see what next year brings.

Rumor has it that the birthday girl and the Tequila lady kept the party very lively.

MOHAHVE SERIES BOOKS

MOHAHVE VI

The long-awaited Mohahve VI is here!  This collection of 19 local history stories by 16 writers is the 6th in a series that began with Mohahve I in 1963.  The previous Mohahve publications have been reprinted several times over the years because of their popularity.  All of the articles relate to the rich and colorful history of the Victor Valley.  This publication is enhanced with many wonderful photographs.

Several of the writers of Mohahve VI share their own memories of the 1950s in the high desert, including a homesteader.  Other articles include the history of an early founder of Hesperia, an 1898 train robbery in Oro Grande, a W.W. 2 plane crash, local cowboys and cowboy wisdom, a notorious bigamist and contentious neighbor in the late 1880s, and accounts of other notable people who contributed to high desert history.

Books are available for $15 plus tax ($16.16) at the Mohahve Historical Society’s monthly meetings at the Victor Valley Museum, or by calling 760-961-9343.   For mail order add $4 for shipping and handling.
